Affirmations LGBTQ+ Community Center is Michigan's largest LGBTQ community center, serving as an educator, advocate, and incubator of queer culture, connection, and resilience in Ferndale, MI. Since 1989, the organization has provided comprehensive support services designed to meet the diverse needs of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. The center operates as a hub for connection, offering 27 support groups, social events, and community gatherings that help individuals build meaningful relationships and find belonging. Affirmations provides accessible mental health counseling through a queer-friendly therapy program, with three full-time mental health therapists and a resource planner available to serve approximately 150 clients. The organization accepts health insurance and offers sliding scale fees to ensure no one is turned away due to financial barriers. Beyond mental health support, Affirmations offers comprehensive health services including HIV/STI testing, harm reduction programs, vaccinations, and health education. The center also provides essential resource guidance for basic needs and legal support, recognizing that holistic community care extends beyond traditional counseling. Operating from a 17,000-square-foot ADA-compliant facility on 9 Mile Road in downtown Ferndale, Affirmations maintains center hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
