About Caribbean Equality Project

Caribbean Equality Project delivers comprehensive advocacy and support services for LGBTQ+ Caribbean immigrants across Queens, NY and New York City. Founded in 2015, the organization provides specialized programs addressing immigration and mental health services, gender equity, and racial justice within the Caribbean diaspora community. Through public education, community organizing, and civic engagement, CEP operates multiple initiatives including the Trans Justice Unit focused on healthcare and housing advocacy for trans asylum seekers, the Unchained Healing Justice Program serving over 3,200 Caribbean immigrants and asylum seekers, and the Food Justice Program distributing culturally responsive groceries to underserved communities. The organization conducts year-round street outreach and educational workshops that create authentic intergenerational safe spaces for shared experiences and support network building. CEP also serves as a liaison to government agencies and elected officials, working toward equitable policy solutions. With voter registration and civic education reaching over 550,000 New Yorkers, the organization demonstrates significant impact in advancing LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights. As the only educational-based agency specifically serving the Caribbean-American LGBTQ+ community in New York City, CEP addresses critical gaps in services while fostering solidarity, community partnerships, and greater family acceptance among Black and Brown, queer, and trans individuals across all documentation statuses, religious backgrounds, and HIV statuses.
