Equality South Dakota

Equality South Dakota is a statewide advocacy organization based in Sioux Falls, SD, dedicated to advancing equality through comprehensive legislative advocacy, community organizing, and public education initiatives. Since 2007, the organization has worked to secure protections and rights for 2SLGBTQ individuals and families across South Dakota, from Sioux Falls to Rapid City and beyond. The organization's multi-faceted approach includes tracking and analyzing state legislation, maintaining detailed voting records for each legislative session, and mobilizing supporters to oppose discriminatory bills. Equality South Dakota has successfully defeated 15 anti-2SLGBTQ bills since 2017, demonstrating measurable impact on state policy. Beyond legislative work, the organization provides community events that create safe spaces for queer people and their families to gather, celebrate, and build community connections. Additionally, Equality South Dakota offers scholarship opportunities each spring for high school seniors and current students, investing in the next generation of leaders. The organization operates through three coordinated arms working in concert to maximize effectiveness across the state. With 11 dedicated board members and a network of volunteers and donors, Equality South Dakota continues to push for meaningful change in communities throughout South Dakota. Their comprehensive approach combines policy expertise with grassroots organizing to create lasting social change.
