About GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Equality
GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Equality is the world's largest and oldest association of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer healthcare professionals, headquartered in Washington, DC. Since its founding in 1981 as the American Association of Physicians for Human Rights, GLMA has evolved into a comprehensive multidisciplinary organization representing physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, researchers, behavioral health specialists, and health profession students across the United States and internationally.
GLMA leverages the scientific expertise of its diverse membership to advance health equity through three core pillars: advocacy, education, and research. The organization addresses the full spectrum of LGBTQ health concerns, including breast and cervical cancer, hepatitis, mental health, substance abuse, tobacco use, depression, and access to affirming care for transgender and non-binary individuals. With members practicing across major healthcare disciplines such as internal medicine, family practice, psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics-gynecology, emergency medicine, neurology, and infectious diseases, GLMA provides comprehensive expertise in LGBTQ health equity.
The organization serves tens of thousands of LGBTQ health professionals and millions of LGBTQ patients and families. GLMA's work includes public policy advocacy, continuing education through its annual conference on LGBTQ health, webinars, and resources for both healthcare providers and patients. As a leader in LGBTQ health equity, GLMA actively shapes healthcare policy and challenges discriminatory practices while promoting inclusive care standards across all health professions.
