LGBT Detroit

LGBT Detroit is North America's largest Black-founded and Black-led LGBT nonprofit organization, delivering comprehensive programs and advocacy services to the Detroit, Michigan community and beyond. Since its founding in 1994 as KICK Publishing Company and evolution into LGBT Detroit in 2015, the organization has expanded to offer 15 distinct programs serving approximately 800 community members annually. Their service offerings encompass youth and young adult development, sexual orientation and gender identity education, advocacy initiatives, and emotional and physical well-being support. LGBT Detroit operates from their headquarters at 20025 Greenfield Road in Detroit's Murray Hill neighborhood, providing safe gathering spaces where members of the LGBT community can connect without fear of persecution or bigotry. The organization actively partners with local and state legislators, testifying and advocating for policy changes that promote the wellbeing of Detroit's dynamic LGBT culture. Additionally, LGBT Detroit produces Hotter Than July, the world's second oldest and longest-running Black Pride celebration, which draws nearly 20,000 attendees from around the globe each summer. With local, regional, statewide, and national partnerships, LGBT Detroit continues working toward making Detroit a safer place for all to work, play, and live, standing as a symbol of hope through transformative community engagement and education.
