About National Black Justice Coalition

The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) is a leading national civil rights organization based in Washington, DC, dedicated to advancing equity and justice for Black LGBTQ+ and same gender loving communities. Since 2003, NBJC has employed comprehensive strategies including coalition building, federal policy change, research, and education to drive systemic change. The organization specializes in shifting power dynamics and narratives that impact marginalized communities, working to center the needs and voices of Black individuals, families, and communities who have historically been excluded from movements for social justice.

NBJC's work encompasses three core focus areas: shifting power dynamics and narratives by centering community safety and dignity; advancing policy and political change to strengthen connections between racial justice and LGBTQ+ equity movements; and leveraging community engagement and coalition power to shape policy and transform practice. The organization serves Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer+, and same gender loving people, including those living with HIV/AIDS. Through evidence-based research, culturally competent resources, and strategic advocacy, NBJC addresses critical issues including gender justice, HIV support, youth suicide prevention, and workplace discrimination. Operating from Washington, DC, the organization produces comprehensive toolkits, reports, and educational materials designed to support communities in building safer, more equitable spaces. NBJC's mission is to end racism, homophobia, and LGBTQ+ bias and stigma, working toward a world where all people can participate safely and openly in family, faith, and community regardless of race, class, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
