About National Trans Bar Association

The National Trans Bar Association is a national professional organization dedicated to advancing trans and gender nonconforming legal professionals while expanding access to culturally competent legal services. Based in San Francisco, CA, the NTBA recruits, supports, and develops the skills of trans and gender nonconforming law school students and legal professionals across diverse practice settings including government, law firms of all sizes, nonprofit organizations, and social justice advocacy groups. The organization focuses on four core strategic areas: recruiting and developing TGNC legal talent, increasing access to affordable and culturally competent legal services for trans communities, fostering bold and inclusive legal strategies to expand formal legal protections for TGNC people, and elevating intersectional work and cross-movement collaborations. Since its founding in 2016, the NTBA has built a membership representing different regions of the United States with diverse professional backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, and ages. The organization welcomes legal professionals from solo practice, law firms, nonprofits, government agencies, and those working primarily on trans rights advocacy and litigation. By supporting trans people within and outside the legal profession, the National Trans Bar Association works to meaningfully address issues of equity and expand legal protections for transgender and gender nonconforming individuals.
