Oklahomans for Equality

Oklahomans for Equality (OkEq) provides comprehensive advocacy, education, and community programs supporting 2SLGBTQIA individuals and families throughout Tulsa, Oklahoma and the surrounding region. Operating the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center, a fully-equipped 18,000-square-foot facility, OkEq delivers essential services including community events, wellness programs, a full-service lending library, and educational resources. The organization facilitates intersectional advocacy initiatives while maintaining strategic alliances with partners like the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and the Allied Attorney Group. OkEq organizes regular community gatherings, farmers markets providing access to fresh food, clothing swaps promoting sustainability, and holiday markets supporting local queer artists and makers. The organization also provides legal education resources addressing critical issues affecting the 2SLGBTQIA community. Founded in 1980, OkEq has evolved from sponsoring social events and pride celebrations to becoming a regional leader in HIV/AIDS testing and education through its partnership with H.O.P.E. (Health Outreach, Prevention & Education). The Dennis R. Neill Equality Center, purchased in 2005 and opened in 2007 after extensive volunteer-led renovations, stands as a visible symbol of LGBT equality in Oklahoma. With knowledgeable staff and dedicated volunteers, OkEq continues serving as the focal point for the diverse, vibrant 2SLGBTQIA community in Tulsa, offering programs and resources designed to ensure nourishment, support, and celebration are accessible to all.
