About PFLAG Akron

PFLAG Akron provides comprehensive peer support, education, and advocacy services for LGBTQ individuals, families, and allies throughout the Greater Akron, Ohio area. As an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, we deliver multiple pathways for community members to access resources and build meaningful connections. Our monthly meetings create safe, confidential spaces where LGBTQ people and those who love them can share their stories, exchange resources, and find compassionate support from others navigating similar experiences. Beyond our in-person gatherings, PFLAG Akron actively promotes understanding of LGBTQ topics and issues through educational outreach. We partner with libraries, churches, health centers, schools, employee resource groups, community organizations, and businesses throughout Akron to provide speakers, educational resources, and facilitated discussions. Our advocacy efforts focus on advancing equal rights and creating safer communities for all. We engage with local and national officials, coordinate letter-writing campaigns, and work strategically to address emerging issues affecting the LGBTQ community. Founded in 1981, PFLAG Akron holds the distinction of being Ohio's oldest chapter and remains part of the national PFLAG network, which encompasses over 400 chapters across the country. Our meetings are held in a welcoming church environment while maintaining complete independence from any religious affiliation, ensuring an inclusive atmosphere for people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and political perspectives.
