About PFLAG Greater Providence

PFLAG Greater Providence provides comprehensive support, education, and advocacy services for LGBTQ individuals and their families across Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts, and Eastern Connecticut. Since its founding in 1998, the Providence, RI-based chapter has served as a vital resource for hundreds of parents, families, friends, and allies seeking guidance and understanding. The organization offers multiple pathways for connection, including monthly in-person support meetings held in Providence and Newport, as well as virtual Zoom meetings accessible to participants throughout the region. PFLAG Greater Providence facilitates peer support groups where families can share experiences and learn from one another while navigating their journeys toward acceptance and understanding of their LGBTQ loved ones. Beyond support meetings, the chapter provides educational resources and hosts community events including the annual Born This Way Prom, health conferences, and participation in Rhode Island Pride celebrations. The organization advocates for equal rights and civil protections for LGBTQ individuals at local, state, and national levels, working to create safer schools and more inclusive communities. As part of the national PFLAG network with 200,000 members and supporters across more than 500 communities, PFLAG Greater Providence connects families with nationally produced resources while maintaining its commitment to grassroots, community-based support. The all-volunteer nonprofit operates independently from religious or political institutions, ensuring accessible, confidential support for all who seek it.
