About PFLAG Whatcom
PFLAG Bellingham Whatcom County is one of 400 chapters of the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ people and their families, friends, and allies. Operating throughout Whatcom County, the organization provides comprehensive services designed to foster understanding, acceptance, and equality within the community.
The chapter delivers three core service areas: support, advocacy, and education. Support services include monthly community meetings held on the first Tuesday of each month, available both in-person and via Zoom from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, creating safe spaces for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity. Advocacy efforts focus on securing equal civil rights and ending discrimination for LGBTQ individuals and their families throughout Bellingham and Whatcom County. Educational programming reaches local organizations with presentations on topics related to understanding and celebrating gender identities and sexual orientations represented in the community.
In 2024, PFLAG Bellingham Whatcom County demonstrated significant impact through twelve support meetings, co-founding the monthly Generations of Pride dinner for the LGBTQ community, awarding over $7,500 in Transgender Assistance Fund grants supporting legal name changes and medical expenses, and conducting nine presentations at public and private entities throughout the region. The organization has also increased community visibility through representation at major local events including Pride Family Picnic, Youth Pride Festival, and Whatcom Community College. With a growing newsletter reaching 700 subscribers, PFLAG Bellingham Whatcom County continues expanding its reach to serve the diverse needs of the LGBTQ community and their loved ones.
