About Pizza Klatch

Pizza Klatch is a non-profit organization providing comprehensive support services for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies throughout Olympia, WA and the greater Thurston County region. Operating lunchtime support groups across 15 schools—including 14 high schools and one middle school—Pizza Klatch reaches nearly 440 students through 28 support groups per week. Each group is facilitated by two trained adult co-facilitators who are either members of the LGBTQ+ community or dedicated allies, creating safe, confidential spaces where youth can connect and build community during the school day.

The organization specializes in peer support programming designed to empower LGBTQ+ youth through structured group facilitation. Groups follow a consistent format beginning with ground rules and check-ins, where participants share both highs and lows from their lives. This approach allows youth to discuss experiences including homophobic harassment, feelings of marginalization, discrimination within families, and other challenges they face. Pizza Klatch maintains mandatory reporter protocols while ensuring an inclusive, supportive environment free from physical harm or emotional attacks.

Beyond direct youth programming, Pizza Klatch offers LGBTQ+ competency workshops for adults and provides curated resource links for youth, parents, guardians, educators, and school administrators. The organization also maintains an active volunteer program for those interested in serving as klatch facilitators. Since its founding in 2008, Pizza Klatch has grown from serving two schools to becoming a vital community resource, supported by a collaborative network of private therapists, school district partners, community organizations, and dedicated volunteers throughout Olympia and Thurston County.
