Side by Side provides comprehensive support services and programming for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults throughout central Virginia and beyond, based in Richmond, VA. The organization offers youth-centered support groups, housing assistance, and specialized programs designed to help LGBTQ+ individuals ages 11-25 define themselves, belong, and flourish in supportive communities. Side by Side extends its expertise beyond direct youth services, providing professional trainings and consultation to K-12 schools throughout the entire Commonwealth of Virginia, helping educational institutions create inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ students. The organization also delivers specialized training programs to community organizations, government agencies, and corporate partners seeking to transform their workplaces into affirming spaces for all employees. For families and caregivers, Side by Side offers dedicated resources, programs, and support services to help parents and guardians better support their LGBTQ+ family members. With a specific commitment to serving Black LGBTQ+ youth and addressing racial equity, Side by Side has developed targeted programming including youth of color support groups and homelessness services for young adults experiencing housing instability. Since its founding in 1991 as the Richmond Organization for Sexual Minority Youth (ROSMY), the organization has pioneered innovative services including college scholarships, alternative proms, and youth leadership development through its Youth Engaged in Leadership program. Today, Side by Side continues this legacy of service innovation while maintaining its core focus on meeting LGBTQ+ youth where they are and supporting them to survive and thrive.
