About USC Student Assembly for Gender Empowerment
The USC Student Assembly for Gender Empowerment (SAGE) is a dynamic student organization based at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA, dedicated to programming transformative events that address emerging gender-related concerns affecting students, faculty, and staff. Operating from a foundation of intersectional feminist principles, SAGE designs and executes comprehensive programming initiatives throughout the academic year that educate, advocate, and create inclusive spaces for dialogue on critical social issues.
SAGE's signature programming includes Body Love Month in October, featuring anti-fatphobia and anti-ableism educational sessions that explore the intersectionality between feminism and body acceptance. The organization coordinates Reproductive Justice Month in January to raise awareness and advocate for reproductive rights, while Women's History Month programming in March celebrates and uplifts all women and non-binary individuals through an intersectional lens. Additionally, SAGE hosts FemFest, an annual student-run music festival serving as an inclusive safe space that amplifies voices of women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ community members within the music industry.
As a queer and trans-inclusive organization, SAGE actively works toward intersectional, collective liberation by uplifting all voices oppressed by patriarchal systems. The organization operates through a robust advocacy framework, addressing critical issues including sexual assault awareness through Take Back the Night events held during April's Sexual Assault Awareness Month. SAGE maintains regular engagement with the USC community through weekly general meetings and provides resources, scholarship information, internship opportunities, and a platform for community members to share their voices and experiences.
